BURIAL VAULTS / OUTER BURIAL CONTAINER

The purpose of a vault or outer burial container is to provide protection for the casket that is placed inside, as well as to maintain grave integrity once the grave is closed.  By adding a solid structure, the earth will eventually settle and create an even surface for mowing and lawn maintenance purposes.  For this reason, many cemeteries require an outer burial container.  It must be disclosed on the Statement of Goods and Services at the time of arrangements if a cemetery does, in fact, have such requirements.  Vaults or Outer Burial Containers are usually constructed of concrete and vary in their water-tight abilities.  Only you can decide if that's important to you.
