Esther Rogers, 90, of Hellertown, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017. She was the wife of Roy Rogers for 49 years at the time of his death in 1997. Born January 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Kukoda) Bernhardt. She graduated from Hellertown High School and Bethlehem Business College. She worked in the Hellertown-Lower Saucon school district superintendent’s office for 35 years as a secretary and later the payroll clerk until her retirement in 1985. She was proud of the fact that she never took a sick day during her career and also that she had near-perfect attendance during her school years.
Esther was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hellertown, where she gave generously of her time and other resources. She volunteered at the Hellertown Area Library and the New Bethany Ministries soup kitchen. She was a dedicated blood donor, receiving recognition for giving more than ten gallons over the years. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, needlecrafts, anything chocolate, hanging out with her friends at the the Hellertown Pool, and playing casinos with her cousin Margaret.
Survivors: Daughter Jean Rogers (husband John Feltman) of Emmaus; son Robert (wife Claudia Allen) of Lower Saucon; grandsons Joel (Lauri) and Peter (Andrea) Rogers; great-grandson Evan; brother Arthur Bernhardt and sister Evelyn Patterson. She was predeceased by brother Robert Bernhardt as well as one dog and two cats, all named Ginger.
Services will be 11 AM, on Friday, at Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown. A viewing will preceed the services in the church parlor from 10 AM. The Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Hellertown, is in charge of arrangements.
