Condolence From: Jim Evans
Condolence: Our son is new to Troop 108 this year, but Moose always went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He always personally greeted me by my name, and his interest in the Troop and its members was incredible. Just two weeks ago, he was quizzing our son on some things that he needed for advancement, and was sharing stories at the cabin about how the flagpole and basketball hoop were obtained. Moose will definitely be missed by many!

Condolence: Spent many mornings with Moose at the UPYMCA. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened. He had such wisdom. A kind, compassionate person who lit up when he discussed his scouting days.I learned so much about baseball from him to. I never met anyone who could finish a crossword puzzle as fast as he could, such a brilliant mind. I am happy to have called him my friend. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Condolence: Moose and I were introduced many years ago when he found out I graduated from Notre Dame. Moose was a huge fan of the Fighting Irish, and traveled many times to Indiana to see Notre Dame football games, often with his nephew Steve.

We became regular lunch buddies and shared many stories over the years. There were lots of laughs.

I did not grow up in the UP Valley and was not part of scouts. But it was obvious how deep his affection was for all the young men he mentored over the years. And the affection was returned by so many of the scouts who considered him their second father. He gave so much and was such a positive role model. I was lucky to get invited to Camp Horseshoe one time and see him in action with all the young men. He was a scouting "master" in the truest sense of the word.

He touched so many lives. I will miss him very much.

Condolence From: C. Allen "Spud" Truitt
Condolence: Karl "Moose" Winsch was a block mason by trade but everyone knows his real career was as Scoutmaster of East Greenville Troop 108 for 40 years. A towering man with a deep compassion for others, he was tough but fair. He empowered boys to find their strengths, build their confidence, become leaders, and grow to be strong, caring men. Truly one of the greatest influences of my life.

He looked out for me. He made sure I was taken care of in a time of my life when I desperately needed a caring adult. Much of who I am I owe to him.

I have had a career in youth development and I can only hope to have a fraction of the positive influence he has had on youth.

May the great master of all Scouts be with us 'til we meet again.

With great love,
C. Allen "Spud" Truitt

Condolence: I’m actually from Green Lane and was enrolled in troop 338 until I was 13 or so. I ended up transferring to troop 108 after having an incredible experience traveling to Philmont with Flag and the gang in the summer of ’93. From that point forward, my experience in Scouting started in a very positive direction. I guess you could say that I kind of stumbled upon troop 108 and its one of the best breaks that I’ve had in my lifetime.
When I think back to the reasons I choose to stay with 108, one of the more compelling factors was Moose. Moose was icon in scouting, the kind of man who can dwell in the memories of those who he lead for years to come. Among other things, scouting seeks to create well rounded boys who can set long term goals at an early age and to fulfill those goals. But it takes an undeniable leader to compel a boy to stay committed to the oath and to earn their Eagle rank. Some boys get their moral compasses from home, others from their place of worship. We members of troop 108 were lucky to be led by a strong contingent of men who could reinforce our morals while providing service to our communities and teaching us to be men. When I think of those men, no single individual left more of a lasting impression than Moose. He taught us to be proud to be scouts and of the reciprocal nature of the scouting experience. But most significantly, he built troop 108, an institution that we all benefitted so much from over the years.
Troop 108 was special, there are no two ways about it. The boys in 108 had an experience in scouting unlike any other scouts who I have ever met throughout my life. First and foremost, the friendships that we made transcended our time at the cabin. These circles prevailed across different sports and extracurricular activities and for years after we passed through the ranks of scouting. Let’s talk about the level of achievement that Moose compelled us to work toward. I reviewed the troops historical Eagle roster. 21 of the troops 125 Eagle scouts were active during my 5 years as a scout with 108. That’s pretty highly concentrated especially when you consider that 108 has been cranking out Eagles for 86 years. We’re talking about 17% of the Eagles in 6% of the time. Additionally, many of us chose to up the ante and spend our summers at Camps Ware and Horseshoe. Moose was a Camp enthusiast, spending countless weekends down there providing service, leadership and brotherhood. What I’m trying to illustrate here is that the Moose effect was immeasurable. He created an overwhelming positive culture that made us want to stay engaged with scouting and allowed to get maximum return. Return of friendship, moral fortitude and leadership that we could impart in future chapters of our lives. In conclusion, without Moose, who knows what sort of experience we would have had in scouting. Something tells me scouting would never have been the same without him. Thank you Moose for everything you’ve done for us, while we were scouts and now as men.

Condolence: I've known "Moose" for a long time. He was a high school classmate of my sister (Alice Moll Davis). Prior to her death, she attended many of the lunches at the diner. More recently, he spent his mornings at the "Y"where my wife and I would engage in conversations with "Moose"; most of which mentioned his special nephew, Steve.Through the East Greenville Boy Scout Troop #108, "Moose"mentored many boys who have great admiration for him. The Upper Perk community will miss him dearly. Our sincere condolences to Joann and family. Love, Sharon and Evan Moll
