Joseph Franklin Christ, 91, passed away on October 8, 2018, at his home in Coopersburg, PA. He was the husband of the late Elisabeth (Reinl) Christ. Born in Leithsville, he was the son of the late Katie A. (Newhard) and Joseph Christ. Joseph spent 11.2 years at the Bethany Children’s Home until he left in 1943 to join the service during WWII. He graduated from Moravian College with a Bachelor’s degree. He was an educator who began teaching in the Bethlehem School District in 1955. He taught English, German and American History. He spent over 30 years teaching before retiring where he began, in the Bethlehem Area School District. Joseph was one of the founding members of the National Historical Society, a Steward of the University Club in Bethlehem, past president of the Warhampton Motor club, as well as past president for Local Chapter 70 EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), a two time president of the Bethlehem Alumni Association, a two times president of the Northampton County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, a Philadelphia Hillclimb Association Hall of Fame Member, he was a part of the Philadelphia Region of the Sports Car Club of America, he got his private pilot’s license, and he was an advocate of HO model railroading.
Surviving is his son, Charles Franklin Christ and his companion Mary Anne Fireux, and his grandson Charles Franklin Christ Jr. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his late ex-wife Harriet “Herman” Christ. He is also predeceased by brothers; Francis L. Christ, James S. Koch, Marvin T. Koch, and sisters; Evelyn (Koch) Barrell, Arlene (Koch) Wentzel, and Marjorie (Koch) Strohmeier.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, October 13th, at Lower Saucon UCC, 1375 Third Avenue, Hellertown, PA 18055. All are invited to great the family
from 10-11 AM. Interment will follow the service at the Union Cemetery of Hellertown.
