Evelyn F. Thomas 101, of Frederick Living and formerly of East Greenville, PA, died November 10, 2016. Born in Pennsburg, she was the daughter of the late William I. and Florence M. (Carl) Snyder. She was the widow of the late William A. Thomas who died in 2007. Evelyn was a clerk for the former Kline’s Drug Store and sewed at the former Rosenau Brothers. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she served as a past Junior Choir Leader, a teacher, a member of WELCA and the Blanket Group, and was a Lay Reader. She was an active Girl Scout and became a Girl Scout Leader. Always musical, she was a pianist who developed a passion for the organ. She was an organ teacher at Clemmer’s Music Studio in Telford for many years. Evelyn continued giving private lessons into her 90’s and at 100 was still playing a “Prelude” selection for non-denominational worship services at Frederick about once a month. Her weekly practice sessions often drew an appreciative audience of staff and residents. She was also an extraordinary bridge player and maintained a sharp mind, in part by playing, sometimes twice a week, with a dedicated group of regulars at Frederick. She also enjoyed playing Pinochle and often played with her great grandchildren when the visited her. She also enjoyed painting in oils, mostly country and coastal scenes, often related to trips she and her husband had taken.
She is survived by her children: Alan Thomas and his wife Jane of Malvern, PA, and Cristine Dixon of Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren: Elizabeth Gorse (Keith) of Glenshaw, PA, Lauri McCallum (Robert Jr) of Blue Bell, PA, Kelly Fleckenstein (David) of Schwenksville, PA, Douglas Thomas (Tracy) of Medina, OH, Samantha Ouellette (Douglas) of Charlotte, NC, and Nathan Dixon (Julie) of Wilmington, NC; her Great Grandchildren: Erin and Tyler Gorse, Sean and Kathryn McCallum, Brian, Matthew and Megan Fleckenstein, Andrew Thomas, and Anna Dixon; and her five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, W. Raymond and Norman J. Snyder, an infant daughter, and a nephew.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 11 AM on Monday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 81 N. Main St., Pennsburg, PA 18073, where all are invited to a viewing from 10 AM. Interment will follow the service in the church Cemetery.
