Moose and I were introduced many years ago when he found out I graduated from Notre Dame. Moose was a huge fan of the Fighting Irish, and traveled many times to Indiana to see Notre Dame football games, often with his nephew Steve.
We became regular lunch buddies and shared many stories over the years. There were lots of laughs.
I did not grow up in the UP Valley and was not part of scouts. But it was obvious how deep his affection was for all the young men he mentored over the years. And the affection was returned by so many of the scouts who considered him their second father. He gave so much and was such a positive role model. I was lucky to get invited to Camp Horseshoe one time and see him in action with all the young men. He was a scouting "master" in the truest sense of the word.
He touched so many lives. I will miss him very much.
